Overview :
In accordance with the TORs, the Consultant will collect models of private sector’s participation in municipal practices and programmes in selected countries and communities, define impact assessment indicators and conduct a comparative analysis of efficiency in basic service delivery that involves private actors and international development partners, including the EU, WB and bilateral development organizations.
 
In line with the UNDP’s corporate principles, the study on The Role of the Private Sector in Urbanization for Sustainable Livelihoods (RPSU) will contribute to the elaboration of the knowledge product that the IICPSD aims to further use for capacity development and training programmes delivered to businesses and local authorities for local content building, within the center’s Thematic Area #2.
 
The RPSU study conducted by the Consultant should serve three objectives as follows:
 
  1. Map innovative solutions to urbanization challenges that involve private actors in municipal programmes in selected countries
  2. Define knowledge and capacity gaps of local authorities & non state actors (NSA) in project identification & implementation in public-private partnership using inclusive business models
  3. Map existing funding models and solutions for PS’s participation in local development
  4. Document debates in three dedicated workshops on the role of the private sector in municipal practices and programmes and aggregate recommendations to support the elaboration of a methodology for innovative PPPs in the community
