Overview : The project will install artificial reefs in reef balls and lay groynes at the Kololi beach stretch for the primary purpose of reducing coastal erosion at the site; light beach nourishment will also be performed as part of regenerating the already severely eroded beach. The work at Tanji involves the laying of geotubes sandwiched by groynes at either side of the mouth of the Tanji River. The longterm durability or resilience of these structures depends on a number of factors that include wave action, shoreline morphology and post-installation maintenance. This study is therefore intended to ensure the final design and build-up of the structures is mindful of the local hydrographic and morphological conditions; furthermore, the designs will also give indications of costs of installing the structures as well as maintaining them hence allowing for advance planning in this regard. |
