Overview : The Building Sector Energy Efficiency Project (BSEEP) has for its goal the reduction in the annual growth rate of GHG emissions from the Malaysia buildings sector. The project objective is the improvement of the energy utilization efficiency in Malaysian buildings, particularly those in the commercial and government sectors, by promoting the energy conserving design of new buildings and by improving the energy utilization efficiency in the operation of existing buildings. The realization of this objective will be facilitated through the removal of barriers to the uptake of building energy efficiency technologies, systems, and practices. A passive design technical guideline on EE building design has been prepared. The passive design guideline is targeted for building designers, architects, engineers and building developers. The passive design guideline will serve both as a teaching/training aid and as a detailed, practical up to date reference for designers on all aspects of designing and constructing new EE buildings or retro-fitting existing buildings that are upgraded. The project intends to assist local designers in Malaysia to design daylighting requirements in buildings. The consultancy is expected to predict discomfort glare within daylit open plan green buildings which can then be used the target design value (current designers use 2000 cd/m2). Findings of this work will then be incorporated and published in the passive design technical guidelines produced by BSEEP. The publication of the findings of the consultancy should assist designers and architects choose lower visible light transmission glazing and reduce the use of internal blinds.
