| Overview : Organizing Kapuscinski Development Lectures: 2014/15
You are kindly requested to express your interest by submitting the attached expression of interest form no later than Wednesday 13 August 2014. Universities that fully satisfy the eligibility criteria shall be considered for the bid solicitation.
The UNDP Regional Centre for Europe and the CIS invites interested universities to apply on the following:
UNDP and the European Commission have been organizing jointly since 2009 a series of high-level lectures on development across the European Union – “Kapuscinski development lectures” which honour Ryszard Kapuscinski, Polish writer and reporter who covered developing countries. In 2009-2014 UNDP and EC organized five series of development lectures delivered by eminent experts at the universities of the EU Member States – “Kapuscinski development lectures”. The lectures have been hosted by the biggest universities and think-tanks most advanced in development studies.
Based on this experience EC and UNDP plan to continue collaboration on raising awareness and building support for development cooperation in Member States through a sixth round of “Kapuscinski development lectures” series organized in 2014 and 2015.
24 lectures in EU Member States jointly selected by EC and UNDP (from all 28 Member States) and in countries outside EU will contribute to fostering a debate on development policy. The series of lectures will be organized as part of the official events of the European Year for Development 2015.
The lectures aim at raising awareness on development issues, particularly among students. Students are the primary target audience of the lectures, however the hosts are also encouraged to invite policy-makers, NGOs and the media. The project is funded by the European Commission and implemented by UNDP. More: http://kapuscinskilectures.eu.
UNDP and EC would like to organize one or more Kapuscinski development lectures in each of the following cities during 1st September 2014 – 31st December 2015 period:

Sofia
Zagreb
Nicosia
Prague
Tartu or Tallinn
Paris
Bonn
Budapest
Dublin
Riga
Malta
Amsterdam
Bucharest
Ljubljana
Bilbao or Madrid or Barcelona
Therefore we would kindly request you to submit an expression of interest (EOI) on organizing the Kapuscinski development lecture in one or few of the above cities. Please note that the final list of cities may change.
The guest speakers for the lectures are not yet determined, UNDP and EC will consult with the selected host-university proposed speaker for the lecture. The host-university may organize the event in partnership with a development think-tank and/or NGO working in the development field.
UNDP and EC may cover organizational costs and also the costs of the invited speaker (travel, accommodation, honorarium). We also expect the interested university to provide in-kind facilities or render other in-kind support. |
