Overview : UNDP in collaboration with Ministry of Steel, Government of India and Australian aid is implementing a project titled “Upscaling energy efficient production in small scale steel industry in India”. The objective of the project, which was launched in July 2013, is to promote the adoption of Energy Efficiency measures [EE measures] in small scale steel industry in India.
UNDP seeks to facilitate the diffusion of EE measures in the Steel Re-rolling Mill (SRRM) and Induction Furnace (IF) sector to bring down end-use energy level, improve productivity and cost competitiveness, and reduce associated emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) and related pollutant levels. One of the main outputs envisaged under this project is to increase the capacities on energy efficiency processes and best practices like SOP/SMP, 5S, ISO across the SRRM and IF sector in India. In addition to several other activities, it is planned to conduct cluster level meetings and training programs for shop-floor, middle management & top management personnel from SRRM units.
