| Overview : UNODC Office in Cairo has been involved in juvenile justice reform in Egypt since 2003, particularly through the implementation of a reform programme to improve the detention conditions of children and youth in conflict with the law at the institution for young male offenders in El Marg as well as to facilitate their reintegration into society. Currently, UNODC is implementing the third phase, the phase‐out, of the programme, aiming to sustain the rehabilitation and reintegration process that was initiated by UNODC in 2006. This phase‐out project also approaches issues that were not tackled during the first two phases of the programme, such as the classification of inmates, the health aspect and the inspection of the facility. In order to implement the above, UNODC requires contracting an NGO to provide reintegration services for children and youth at the Institution for young male offenders in Marg. |
