Overview :

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trinidad and Tobago in conjunction with and the University of the West Indies (UWI) and the United Nations Trinidad and Tobago are hosting a forum entitled: The Forum on the Future of the Caribbean. Disruptive thinking. Bold action. Practical outcomes.

 

The forum will be held on Tuesday 5th May 2015 at the St. Augustine Campus UWI, Trinidad and Wednesday 6th -Thursday 7th May 2015 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Trinidad and Tobago.

 

While the Caribbean has considerable thinking and research around its development challenges, the conversion of these ideas into appropriate policy responses, actions and solutions is challenging.

 

The Forum presents a multi- stakeholder, multi- disciplinary platform to mobilize the Caribbean to establish a cohesive strategy and practical agenda to solve its own problems.

The Forum will involve the presentation of academic and policy papers, along with round tables consisting of political leaders, policy makers, young shapers, civil society and private sector from which to provoke and generate disruptive thinking that can lead to innovative actionable ideas and solutions.

 

Day 1: May 5th - New Thinking for New Times

Young academic researchers, regional thought leaders and policy makers will present and discuss solutions around Caribbean convergence, data quality and sustainable development indicators and solution and green and blue growth strategies.  The outputs of Day 1 would feed into the round table discussions in Days 2 and 3.

Day 2: May 6th – New Frontiers for Thought in the Caribbean: Disruptive thinking

Day 2 consists of 4 round table sessions and 4 key note address on topics about global and regional convergence, including CARICOM integration and opportunities for convergence from the private sector, as well as present a new paradigm, our vision 2050 to build resilience in the Caribbean.  

Day 3: May 7th – From Survivability to Sustainability in High and Middle Income Caribbean Countries: Bold Action and Practical Outcomes

Day 3 consists of 4 round table sessions and 2 keynote opening address around issues of poverty and inequality, high debt levels, improving data quantity and quality along with good governance, green and blue growth strategies and human capital development and global diplomacy
