Overview :

Global Pulse (http://www.unglobalpulse.org/about-new) is an innovation initiative of the United Nations Secretary-General on Big Data. Its vision is a future in which big data is harnessed safely and responsibly as a public good. Its mission is to accelerate discovery, development and scaled adoption of big data innovation for sustainable development and humanitarian action. Global Pulse is building a catalytic network of in-country innovation centers, which will test new tools, data and analysis, share what lessons with the global community, mainstream successful approaches for real-time impact monitoring into policymaking. The first Lab has been established in New York (Pulse Lab New York) followed by Jakarta, Indonesia and Kampala, Uganda.

Pulse Lab Kampala will built a tool to support  the incorporation of spatial data in NBSAPs. The tool will be a user-friendly online dashboard and associated graphs that will show spatial analysis to inform and monitor policy. The tool will be built in dialogue with the NBSAP Team and the UNDP Global NBSAP Support Team. Accessible through a web browser, the biodiversity monitoring user-friendly tool will provide the ability to compare a number of sources of geographical information (such as the extent of protected areas, changes in the distribution of human settlements, and climatic changes), and to extract statistical summaries of important factors of interestvelopment and humanitarian action. Its agiants this background therefore that Globalpulse lab is looking for an individual consultant to collect, convert and process spatial data to be uploaded in the web-based tool.
