| Overview : Ethiopia has registered double digit annual economic growth rate during the last decade. The Government of Ethiopia’s Growth and Transformation Plan puts forward that this growth rate will be maintained to elevate the country to middle income status by the year 2025.The International Monetary Fund (IMF) expects Ethiopia to become one of the world’s fastest growing countries over the coming years. In Ethiopia, as the economy depends on natural resources, most sectors, including agriculture, water, energy and industry are easily affected by the climatic change. However, the poorest with the least options for coping strategies are the first and hardest hit. Thus, addressing climate change and building resilience has important economic, environmental, social, equity and human rights dimensions. Preliminary projections suggest that climate change can have a sizeable impact that ranges in order of annual 7-8% of GDP loss, with stronger impacts in later decades and on the poor due to low adaptation and resilience, which makes climate adaptation an imperative to sustain the country’s economic growth.
