| Overview : The import of data/statics in development cannot be overemphasized. In acknowledging this fact, the UN Secretary General inaugurated the Independent Expert Advisory Group (IEAG) in 2013 to propose ways to improve data for achieving and monitoring sustainable development. The report of the IEAG submitted in 2014 titled: A World that Counts highlights two big global challenges for the current state of data which include the challenge of invisibility (gaps in what we know from data, and when we find out) and the challenge of inequality (gaps between those with and without information, and what they need to know to make their own decisions).
