Overview :

The development agenda of the Ethiopian Government is poverty eradication. All development policies, strategies, plan, programs and projects in Ethiopia are primarily geared towards achieving the objective of poverty eradication and in realizing the national vision of becoming a middle income country by 2025. Consequently, achieving broad-based, accelerated and sustained economic growth is seen as a means through which the overarching development objective of poverty eradication is to be realized. Hence successive medium terms development plans, including the Sustainable Development and Poverty Reduction Programme (SDPRP), the Plan for Accelerated and Sustained Development to End Poverty (PASDEP) and the Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) were all designed with a strategic focus on poverty eradication and human development.  The Government of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia established the National Planning Commission (NPC) in February 2013 with the main objective to prepare five-year plans of National Development in the framework of countrywide balanced growth within the context of a long-term perspective plan of fifteen years and conduct periodic evaluation of the implementation of the plans.  The NPC is currently preparing the second five year (2015/16-2019/20) Growth and Transformation Plan. A strong, robust and well capacitated National Planning institution is believed to strengthen the economic management and coordination at the national level and accelerate the national vision of becoming a middle income country by 2025.
