Overview : The Strategy for Climate and Disaster Resilient Development in the Pacific (SRDP) succeeds the previous regional frameworks on climate change and disaster risk management respectively, the Pacific Islands Framework for Action on Climate Change 2006-2015 (PIFACC) and the Pacific Disaster Risk Reduction and Disaster Management Framework for Action 2005-2015 (RFA). Successful implementation of the SRDP as the new resilient development framework will require a strong enabling environment. In this regards, institutional arrangements are being established to support the implementation of the strategy. These include, inter alia: a SRDP Steering Committee (SRDPSC) and a SRDP Support Unit (SRDPSU). The SRDPSU will be housed in the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) for an initial two years and will provide operational support for the effective and efficient implementation of the SRDP. Since the SRDP brings together climate change and disaster risk management, the respective communities of practice will also be brought together under the Pacific Resilience Partnership (PRP). The PRP will include a broad range of stakeholders, including also the private sector, central government agencies such as finance and planning, and sector-specific stakeholders, to ensure that the implementation of the SRDP is anchored within sectors of strategic importance, and directly contributes to building sustainable development. In order to operationalize the SRDP a systematic assessment is required of the current enabling environment for risk resilient development at the regional level in the context of the Governance and Institutional Arrangements already outlined in the SRDP (under Section 3) The Strategy for Climate and Disaster Resilient Development in the Pacific (SRDP) succeeds the previous regional frameworks on climate change and disaster risk management respectively, the Pacific Islands Framework for Action on Climate Change 2006-2015 (PIFACC) and the Pacific Disaster Risk Reduction and Disaster Management Framework for Action 2005-2015 (RFA).
