Long Term Agreement (LTA) for The Provision of TRANSLATION Services to facilitate the Implementation of UNDP Yemen Projects

Background & Purpose:

UNDP in undertaking its programs in YEMEN requires the services of an institution/contractor specializing in simultaneous and consecutive interpretation and translation services to translate United Nation Development Programm (UNDP) documentation.

 

As a part of UNDP work in YEMEN there are planned to be conducted a series of missions of international experts and consultants, as well the organization of various events such as conferences, workshops, roundtables, with participation of national counterparts and international organization and invited international consultants. In view of accommodating the interpretation and translation needs of the evolved stakeholders and of ensuring a quality dialogue involving in two languages (English and Arabic), UNDP YEMEN seeks to hire interpreters/translators for providing timely and qualitative interpretation/translation services.

 

Objectives of the exercise

  1. To provide simultaneous and/or consecutive services from Arabic to English, vice-versa during workshops/meetings/conferences.
  2. To provide translation services to UNDP including translating manuals, documents (notably for the regional/national governing bodies) and various press materials from press releases to studies and reports from Arabic to English or vice versa.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide simultaneous/consecutive interpretation services during:

* Steering Committee meetings;

* Technical Working Group meetings;

* Conferences;

* Official missions;

* Workshops;

* Meetings between the international advisors and national consultants, as well as national counterparts.

 

Provide translation of:

* Modifications/changes/comments made by international advisors or national

* Consultants/counterparts in various reports;

* Legislation, advocacy and information materials;

* Documents of meetings, of the Project Steering Committee and Technical Working Group;

* Correspondence to the Government, national/international counterparts, and vice versa;

Deliverables:

  • Translation fee from Arabic into English as per agreed cost by both parties - will be paid upon submission and approval of UNDP.
  • The calculation of the number of pages shall be based on Price Proposal Form. Collection and delivery of document are free of charge.
  • Translate/EDIT document.
  • Proof reading.
  • Interpretation service with Interpretation equipment (System and headsets) if required

Deliverables:

Qualifications & Experience required:

 

  • An institution with a proven track record of at least three years’ experience in translating technical and/or legal documents and interpretation work  from English to Arabic or vice versa
  • Has a valid license from Government for provision in the translation services.
  • Has a bank account under company’s name
  • Has a sworn certificate for translator (If applicable).
  • Ability to work on demand, multi-task and strict adherence to deadlines and quality of work  
  • Ability to work with limited supervision, with capacity for providing own computer and email services
  • Proven experience of working with UN, NGO, government and civil society clients.
  • Interpretation equipment (System and headsets) if required

Special request:

  1. When additional translators are requires, the Contractor shall assign adequate personnel to service satisfactorily the volume of work and to fulfill its obligations under the Contract with UNDP YEMEN.  The Contractor shall assign the relevant personnel according to their technical know-how and reliability.
  2. The Contractor shall notify UNDP in case of any changes or resignations of proficiently translators and submit CV’s of newly recruited personnel for UNDP acceptance.
  3. The Contractor shall insure availability of personnel during the high demand periods and provide a rate for emergency high priority translation when requested by UNDP.
  4. The Contractors employees shall perform their functions in a highly efficient and professional manner.
  5. If travel request outside Sana’a, the contractor will responsible for travel cost and accommodation for the translators.

Estimated duration of contract:

The agreement will be for 1 year from signed contract with possible extension.
