Overview : The Global Environment Facility (GEF) recently approved Fiji Government’s submission of a Project Identification Form (PIF) for a project entitled Building Capacities to Address Invasive Alien Species to Enhance the Chances of Long-term Survival of Terrestrial Endemic and Threatened Species on Taveuni Island and Surrounding Islets. The objective of the project is: to enhance the chances of the long-term survival of terrestrial endemic and threatened species on Taveuni Island and surrounding islets by building national and local capacity to prevent, detect, control and manage Invasive Alien Species. The project consist of four components namely: Component 1: Emplace National IAS Management Framework to prevent terrestrial IAS entering Fiji Comp Component 2: Systems for Inter-island IAS movement prevention and control demonstrated in order to protect vulnerable global globally significant ecosystems on Taveuni Island and surrounding islets Compo Component 3: Eradication and control of GII (Iguana iguana) in Taveuni Island and surrounding islets ( Laucala, Matagi, Qamea) Component 4: Knowledge Management to Address IAS The Team Leader will work closely with the UNDP Fiji Multi Country Office (MCO) and Bio Security Authority of Fiji. In addition, he or she will be supported by one international and two national consultants. The Team leader is responsible for the supervision of the team of consultants and facilitates smooth dialogues between key stakeholders and project team. |
