Project Description

UNDP’s Socotra Governance and Biodiversity Project contribute to creating a sustainable and well-governed path of development for the Socotra archipelago that ensures the conservation of its globally important biodiversity. This project aims at effective mainstreaming of biodiversity management considerations into the current process of “decentralizing governance for development” on the Socotra archipelago. It expects that the objectives will be achieved through four essential interventions to address the constraints identified in each element of the mainstreaming framework; local governance support, mainstreaming tools, strengthening NGOs advocacy, and benefits of biodiversity conservations to local livelihoods.

The mains services required are building administrative and technical capacities of NGOs/CBOs, through trainings on management, advocacy sustainability, governance and technical capacity in natural resource management and protected areas. This activity within project outcome 3;  strengthening NGOs advocacy will help in empowering local communities to protect their traditional rights and natural resources, and to ensure that they have an adequate voice in the planning and development process and provide the NGOs/CBOs with knowledge and skills to enhance their capacity in managing their resources in sustainable way. The activity will be used as a base for support small projects proposed by NGOs/CBOs.
