Overview : The UNV Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific will commission a publication on the UNV response to the 2015 Nepal Earthquake, in line with its mandate of generating, documenting and disseminating knowledge on volunteerism and disaster risk reduction in support of UNV program development in the Asia-Pacific region. A National Consultant will be engaged by UNV to undertake the documentation which contributes to Output 2 of the UNV Community Resilience for Environment and DRR Global Project. Output 2 seeks to position UNV as a reference partner for volunteerism and community resilience through the documentation and dissemination of knowledge on the contribution of volunteerism to disaster risk reduction and management. The objectives of the documentation are as follows: - Document the role and contribution of volunteerism in the response to the 2015 Nepal Earthquake using the UNV experience as basis
- Assess volunteerism in terms of its effectiveness, emerging impact and value to the overall response efforts
- Identify good practices and success stories, as well as challenges and lessons learned, including in terms of youth engagement and innovation
- Present recommendations on the use of volunteerism in addressing the effects of future disasters
