| Overview : The Government of India with support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has initiated the program “Improving Energy Efficiency in the Indian Railways (IR) System”. IR has been appointed as the nodal agency for the implementation of this program by the Ministry of Railways. The program aims at implementing energy efficient technologies in the IR system including across railway stations and other IR facilities. Under one of the initiatives of this program, Rail Bhavan, the headquarter building of the Indian Railways, has been selected as the first site for implementing modern energy efficient technologies. The objective of this Project is twofold – to implement technologies that will enable energy-efficient operations of the building, and showcase technological deployments to position Rail Bhavan as a demonstrator Intelligent Building. As part of this Project, LED based Lighting System, Lighting Management System (LMS), Multi-Function Digital Energy Meters and Building Management Intelligent System (BMIS) will be provided at the Rail Bhavan. Also, supporting systems required to integrate BMIS with the building’s existing fire detection system, lifts, and diesel generators will be provided as part of this Project.
