Overview : In March 2014, the Commission on Gender Equality convened a National Gender Summit that brought together a cross-section of South Africans to reflect and debate on what strides have been made towards the attainment of gender equality in South Africa, and the challenges experienced, as the country celebrated its 20 years of democracy. Having attained 20 years of democracy, the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DoJCD) - Gender Directorate is seeking to publish the second edition of Women and the Law in South Africa, Gender Equality Jurisprudence in Landmark Court Decisions. The purpose of the Second Edition is to build on the work of the First Edition, based on the belief that after 20 years of democracy, superior or equivalent courts have long developed the law progressively, resulting in improved understanding and protection of women’s rights. We therefore need the service of a consultant to collect, analyse and write a publishable report on abstractions from the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court of Appeal, High Court and Magistrates Court rulings on gender-related jurisprudence in order to show to what extent courts are promoting gender equality in their court rulings, after 20 years of democracy. |
