BACKGROUND

UNDP has implemented the contract “Supply and Installation of Water Pumps and Equipment for Al-Naharwan Water Plant” in collaboration with the Directorate of Water (DOW), Baghdad. The project was completed on 14 July 2016 aimed to improve the level of water service delivered to citizens of Al- Nahrawan Sub-district, Baghdad.

The installation of the new pumps has contributed to increase the amount of the water supply (capacity) delivered to citizens. Before the project, the pumping station was providing water to the maximum capacity of 800 m3/hr. While currently, the capacity has improved up to (1800 - 2000 m3/hr) after the installation of the new pumps.

Al-Nahrawan Water Facility is delivering potable water to the approx. of 120,000 individuals from community, in addition to 30,000 internally displaced persons residing Nabi Younis IDPs Camp as being served directly from the water purifying plants. Therefore, total number of beneficiaries for this project has reached to the approx. 150,000 persons including the displaced population.

The requested additional works were exported during the installation of the new pumps, when the Supervision Committee of DOW, Baghdad identified the need to replace the connection valves installed between the pipelines as found to be old and subject to dis-function due to corrosion.
