Overview : St. Kitts and Nevis’ protected areas system currently comprises of three (3) terrestrial protected area units on the island of St. Kitts. These include the Central Forest Reserve National Park primarily for ecological conservation; the Royal Basseterre Valley for water conservation; and the Brimstone Hill National Fortress, under non-governmental management, for historical conservation. Presently there are no terrestrial protected areas on the island of Nevis and no marine protected areas in the country. Terrestrial Protected Areas include the Central Forest Reserve National Park (CFRNP) (Established) and Royal Basseterre Valley National Park (RBVNP) (Established). Proposed protected areas include the Nevis Peak National Park and Camps River Watershed Area (NPNPCRWA) and Booby Island Nature Reserve (BINR). Proposed Marine Protected Areas include the Sandy Point Marine Park, the Keys Marine Park, and the Narrows Marine Park. |
