| Overview : On February 3, 2016 the Council of Ministers ratified the National Development Plan (NDP), approving its priorities and direction for the medium term future, and making implementation of paramount importance. Consequently, the NDP was handed over officially to the Parliament of Curaçao on March 14, 2016 and the implementation of the NDP was officially launched on March 21, 2016. Since that time several Tiger Teams have initiated work on distinct focus areas; concurrent to this the UNDP has launched an overall communication strategy. The Ministry of Economic Development has established five Tiger Teams regarding the economic pillar of the NDP namely: - Logistics and Ports
- Tourism
- Investment Climate
- Investment Promotion
- Export and Innovation for local companies.
Curaçao as a nation has committed to global cooperation towards mainstreaming, and localizing, the SDGs. The NDP has outlined 4 priority Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with supporting projects. Supporting this effort 17 Caribbean nations have committed to a joint Multi-Country Sustainable Development Framework (MSDF) with four goals, aligned to the SDGs. The UNDP team in Curaçao has been responsible for shepherding the creation and adoption of the NDP and has now been asked to assist with implementation, as outlined above. |
