| Overview : Conflict in Iraq since 2014 led to a huge displacement of Iraqis which is currently estimated at around 3 million Internally Displaced People (IDPs). Since then, some progress was made by Iraqi Security Forces and Popular Mobilization Forces supporting the Government of Iraq. In recognition of the need for an immediate response to the necessities of its people in this fragile period, when attempts are made to recruit disenfranchised populations - especially youth, the Iraqi Government, with support from an international coalition of partners, has started planning for the immediate stabilization of newly accessible areas which will allow the displaced population to return to their home areas. UNDP supported the process, to ensure that rapid assessment of damages and response to priority needs is undertaken as soon as possible after the ‘liberation’ of contested areas. In addition, UNDP is supporting stabilization/recovery needs in various newly accessible areas, under the leadership of local authorities. As a first step of a comprehensive assessment UNDP sent a mission of international and national experts to Ramadi city to meet with local authorities, view damages and meet returnees. There was consensus amongst all those interviewed that water, electricity, health, education and sewage services are the priority needs for those that have returned and to enable others to follow. In accordance with the above and as part of the stabilization efforts, UNDP is in the process of purchasing medical equipment for health facilities in the newly liberated areas. On the 29th �November 2016 UNDP issued a Invitation to Bid (ITB) for the purchase of medical equipment for the Ramadi health Care centers in the respective liberated districts. |
