Overview :

The United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in Belize developed a UNCT Communication Strategy in March 2015 with the overall communication goal to have a more informed national and local media, stakeholders and public on the development impact of the United Nations System in Belize.  Communicating the role of the UN system in Belize , thematic areas of work, improving the UN’s visibility and promoting the UN as a partner of the Government and people of Belize is important.  Communication for development to demonstrate the UN’s commitment and guiding principles to working alongside Belize for good governance and stewardship of the sustainable development process, anchored in human rights.

Communication and advocacy actions aligned to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and agreed programme priorities defined in the UN Multi-country Sustainable Development Framework for the Caribbean 2017 – 2021 will help position the UN in Belize vis-à-vis national stakeholders, key development partners and the public as a leading development partner. 

Under the overall guidance of the UN Resident Coordinator and direct supervision of the UN Coordination Analyst, the Communication Consultant will provide inputs to the design, management and implementation of the communications strategy and plan which are geared to influence the development agenda, promote public and media outreach and mobilize political and financial support for the UN in Belize.

The Consultant will work in close consultation and collaboration with the communications/programme staff of resident and non-resident UN agencies in Belize, UN Development Operations Coordination Office (UN DOCO) knowledge management team and UNDP website managers.  The Consultant would also be required to engage with international and local media, government media, development partners and civil society partners ensuring successful implementation of UN communication activities.
