Background

Over six years on, the Syria continues to remain one of the most complex humanitarian crises of our times, with continued interest on developments on the ground. The extreme complexity of the crisis, however, has confused and divided Arab audiences regarding the crisis where facts have often been mixed up or blurred. In the middle of this, the UN has received a negative image and was routinely portrayed as taking sides in the conflict and/or not doing enough on the humanitarian front.

Arabic media continues to play an influential role in shaping public opinion. OCHA could use this powerful tool to shape a more positive attitude towards the UN’s work inside Syria, by introducing facts from the ground; highlighting achievements; voicing the plight of the Syrian civilians; and advocating for humanitarian access and assistance.

While it is important and strategic to reach out to a broader Arabic-speaking audience, reaching out to Syrians inside and outside Syria to increase their awareness about the UN’s humanitarian aid operations as life-saving operations to millions of people in need, is of equal importance.

The incumbent will play a critical role in achieving this goal, by establishing a cohesive Arabic advocacy and engagement, while keeping abreast of political and conflict-related developments across the region, supporting the ROSC’s ongoing public information efforts, including translation, dissemination of products, networking, and briefing packs in Arabic, in a further effort to highlight humanitarian needs, response and gaps.  in the engagement and capacity development of Syrian NGO partners.

Technical and financial proposals along with CV & 3 references should be submitted, and without such will not be considered).
