Overview :

South Africa is currently faced with an unemployment rate of 27.7 %, poverty rates are estimated at 20.2%, and the country is experiencing a heavy debt burden and fairly low rates of growth. The national output is in technical recession.   The economic outlook does not look positive in the short-term, however the International Monetary Fund forecast a positive growth of 1.6 % in 2018, this is not sufficient to address problem of poverty and unemployment.  According to the First Quarter Labor Force Survey of 2017, more than 52% of youth are neither in employment, education or training. There are worrisome weaknesses in the education sector, which is not producing the caliber workforce prepared for an increasingly competitive international market. Crime and violence are also at unacceptably high levels, and threaten to derail both social and economic achievements.

UNDP is therefore lookng to acquire services of an institution / organization that are qualified to train young people in ICT skills required in the economy. The target age group is 19-30 with at least matric certification. The training should not be more than four months and should lead to a learnership, internship or workplace placement. Sixty percent of trained youth must be women.
