Overview : The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation (MENT) is mandated to conserve Botswana wildlife and their habitats for prosperity. In a bid to conserve Botswana’s wildlife and wild places, and improve Botswana’s efforts to conserving, understanding and appreciate the country’s natural heritage, MENT wishes to develop and manage a lion sanctuary at Gaborone Game Reserve located in Gaborone. The Reserve provides educational and recreational opportunities for residents and visitors to Gaborone The African lion is an iconic species and is considered one of the “big five” tourism species. The lion population in Botswana is considered stable and it is currently estimated that there are approximately 3500 lions in Botswana. It is proposed that a lion sanctuary should be developed which will enhance the educational and tourism value of the Reserve. A consultancy is, therefore, required for the purpose of undertaking a feasibility study that will inform the relevance and appropriateness of the development of such a facility. |
