Jordan signed the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization on October 12, 2014. The country has challenges in implementing the protocol due main constraints such as; 1) limited functioning national legal, policy, and institutional framework that enable the equitable sharing of benefits from the use of genetic resources and traditional knowledge. 2) limited understanding of the value of genetic resources as a source of innovation and scientific/technological development among decision- and policymakers. 3) Insufficient assessments required to identify users and providers of genetic resources in the country. 4) Weak understanding of the importance of Traditional Knowledge (TK) as a key element in sustainable use of biological resources.

In response to the aforementioned constraints, and because Jordan expressed its political will in implementing the Nagoya protocol, the "Strengthening human resources, legal frameworks and institutional capacities to implement the Nagoya Protocol “project will support the country in developing and strengthening their national ABS frameworks, human resources, and administrative capabilities to implement the Nagoya Protocol.

This assignment may require a multi-disciplinary input; therefore, the assigned consultant is responsible (if requires) to contract any needed consultant upon prior approval from UNDP.

In addition, the consultant(s) are expected to work in full coordination with the Project Advisory Committee (PAC), and the project’s partners institutions.

Technical and financial proposals along with CV & 3 references should be submitted, and without such will not be considered.
