| Overview : United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is committed to support India achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and national objectives outlined in its Five-Year Plans by extending technical assistance to the Government of India.
Capacity Development is a key approach in the technical assistance offered by UNDP in the Country Programme 2008-12. The Eleventh Five Year Plan of the Government of India aims to promote inclusive growth. UNDP, through its support in five thematic areas - Poverty Reduction, Democratic Governance, Environment and Energy, HIV and AIDS and Crises Prevention and Recovery (Disaster Management) - is supporting the Government of India in related areas. The UNDP Country Programme 2008-12 will focus on 7 States that have low ranking on Human Development and gender equality indicators and have a high proportion of SC/ST population. These States are Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
