The main responsibility of the Consulting Company/Research Institution/NGO will be to design a National Network of Ecologically Important Areas and develop a Representative Network of Protected and Designated Areas in the country. For that purposes, the contractor should be focused on collation and mapping of the existing biodiversity data and developing the conservation targets for priority habitats and species. The contractor should identify the priority areas for biodiversity conservation and recommend a representative protected area network that will more effectively contribute to conserving the globally and regionally unique habitats and species contained within the network as well as the diversity of the country’s landscapes, ecosystems and habitats. The contractor should also provide GIS layers either obtained digitally from other sources or digitised from maps. Where precise boundaries/shape files are not available, approximate area should be indicated.
During the process of conservation assessment and protected area system plan, the contractor will have intensive consultation with identified stakeholder groups and align the biodiversity conservation priorities of Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning (MoEPP) and other institutions.
