The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)-Iraq, is executing a project for “Capacity Building of Law Enforcement in Al Basrah”, Al Basrah Governorate, Iraq, through funding from the Government of Japan.
The programme aims to build the integrity, professionalism and discipline in the police forces, enhance their basic skills through training in management, community policing and, among others, build the institutional capacity of the police forces, promote public awareness and confidence in the police forces through community based policing and public outreach programs; and finally, enhance the role of civil society in addressing issues relating to law and order. As part of the broader programme, UNDP are going to construct two (2) police stations in Basra.
A key outcome of the Project is to facilitate improved security situation in Basrah, which will help enhancing the protection of the rights of Iraqi citizens including those of women and minorities. The main beneficiaries of this programme are the police forces in Basra, civil society, and the Iraqi public at large.
The scope of work of the Project shall include:
Construction of two police stations. (Al-Ashar Site and Al-Asmaee Site)
Supply and installation of plant and equipment for provision of all auxiliary services, such as electrical, mechanical, water and sewage.
In this connection, UNDP-Iraq is calling for Expressions of Interest from experienced reputable Contracting Companies for implementing the abovementioned scope of work with a view of establishing a pool of pre-qualified Contracting Companies that will be invited, in due course, to submit their bids for the works.
