Overview :

The UNDP in Tanzania implements a project to support establishment of a local chapter of the UN Global Compact Network Tanzania. The Network aims to encourage businesses and non-businesses to adopt socially business responsible practices while mobilizing movement of sustainability companies and stakeholders to make the ‘Tanzania we want’. The Global Compact Network Tanzania is registered as a limited Company by guarantee and not having a share capital.

In 2017, in line with its recently developed 2020 Global Strategy and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the UN Global Compact undertook a year-long Governance Review. This review led to an evolution of the UN Global Compact’s governance framework across the board with the aim to make the Compact fit for purpose to deliver on its mandate to mobilize a global movement of sustainable companies and stakeholders to create the world we want, rather than a radical restructure.

To respond to the new governance framework the GCNT is obliged to review and alter its MEMARTS, that includes:

  • Review and alteration of Global Compact Network Tanzania Memorandum of Understanding & Article of Association (MEMARTS) to reflect the UN Global Compact quality and standard.

  • Develop an action plan for electionboard directors, includingassistance in preparation of election documents and advise during and after election

  • Update information and changes at BRELA

Within this context, UNDP’ support project intends to recruit a consultant to provide a legal service for the review of Global Compact Network Tanzania MEMARTS.
