Overview : UNDP and UN Women, through the Gender Theme Group, with the support of the Behavioural Insights Team (BIT), intend to conduct an a trial and measure the scope and impact of GBV, explore and understand the concept of “bystanderism” (bystander effect) in South Africa and deterring factors for participation or intervention; devise solutions and test them in determined pilot places or local digital spaces through behavioural insights techniques and tools as well as set up monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for reporting progress and to promote sustainability. The trial would seek to understand the cultural dynamics that would bound bystanders not to act as well as why the more educated and “liberated” also fail to act. This same study is also being carried out in Georgia in order to compare the different contexts. In this regard, the role of enumerators (4) in the project is to conduct interviews in targeted areas. The interviews will in turn inform the design of the trial described above. The appointed enumerators will receive training in this innovative methodology and therefore in country capacity will be built to enable this methodology to be used in South Africa in the future. Service of enumerators are therefore required and they will work with GBV Steering Committee and BIT, in conjunction with the Gauteng Provincial Departments of Community and Safety and Social Development to conduct at least 30 interviews on intimate partner violence. |
