Overview : Geographic diversity of the country has given a good opportunity of growing a great volume of fruit and vegetables in Nepal. With the support from the government and development partners, the productivity has been doubled for both fruit and vegetables in the last 20 years. However, marketed volumes of fruit and vegetables are still low compared to the national demand, which has led to a growing food trade deficit. Farmers’ access to optimal production practices, efficient crop handling, high rates of postharvest losses and adequate market infrastructure etc. are not sufficiently addressed so far. In this context, the Value Chain Development of Fruit and Vegetables Project focuses on increasing production, reducing postharvest losses, and improving market linkages. Aiming at farmers’ increased incomes, the project targets pocket areas, cooperatives and farmers in province 3 and Gandaki Pradesh for which the project needs to produce various types of training and extension materials in Nepali language, and we would like to have external support for editing of Nepali and/or English documents. The project is funded by KOICA (USD 5 million) and UNDP (USD 0.5 million) during 2018-2022. |
