UN Women with support from its HQ in New York managed to secure funding from Alibaba for the implementation of the “Empowering Women in Agriculture through access to Information Communication Technology (ICT)” project in conjunction with the “BuyFromWomen” initiative (2019-2021). The goal of the project is to empower rural women farmers economically and to strengthen their livelihood resilience through sustainable food systems, greater access to factors of production and high-value markets. Thus, the project will contribute to overcome the constraints faced by rural women for productive and resilient agriculture through three expected outcomes, which are: - improved efficiency and climate resilience of women’s agricultural productivity and profitability through ICTs;
- increased resilience and productive capacity of women farmers through increased access to information, innovative technologies, and climate smart practices; and
- enhanced women’s participation in high value chain activities for market access.
About the Position: Given this context, in beginning the implementation of the above-mentioned project, UN Women is planning to recruit a National Consultant to undertake a baseline study. This national consultancy is expected to strategically support efforts in conjunction with the Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS) for conducting a baseline study on the status of agricultural value chains (e.g. rice, cassava, etc.) with rural women farmers in the agriculture sector. During this consultancy, strong emphasis will be placed on assessing value chains in Liberia so as to ascertain the means of empowering rural women producers and transformers to achieve secured and sustainable livelihoods; to fulfill their potential; and to decide on their own future. The national consultant will work with LISGIS team of trained enumerators (through a Memorandum of Understanding) for conducting field visits to facilitate data collection in Lofa, Bong and Nimba counties. Information collected will be analyzed and interpreted for the drafting of a project baseline report – based on key findings and recommendations, followed by a validation workshop for report finalization. |
