Overview : Botswana is among the 193 United Nations (UN) Member States that adopted the 2030 Global Framework, commonly known as Agenda 2030, during a UN Summit on Sustainable Development Goals in September 2015. This framework is a universal call to all countries to end poverty in all its forms and dimensions, and to address the global economic, social and environmental challenges that confront majority of the people across the world today, leaving no one behind. This adoption was timely for Botswana as it coincided with the preparation of Vision 2036, the National, District and Urban Development Plans, and facilitated alignment of the SDGs to the Vision 2036 pillars and NDP 11 priorities. The overarching goal for all these frameworks is poverty eradication. Botswana is committed to the full-scale implementation of the 2030 Agenda and has a plethora of activities to prepare the ground for effective implementation of the SDGs in the country including: i) Setting up of an institutional mechanism for coordinating implementation of the SDGs comprising of the SDGs National Steering Committee (NSCs); the SDGs Technical Task Force; and the SDGs National Secretariat and the SDGs Focal Points ii) Development of a Botswana SDGs Roadmap (2017-2023) to serve as a Strategy document, guiding the mainstreaming and implementation of the SDGs in Botswana and an SDG Communication Strategy (2017-2023) to guide advocacy, sensitization and awareness creation on SDGs The High-Level Political Forum (HLPF), the main UN platform responsible for the follow up and review of the 2030 Agenda at the global level, meets annually to review progress being made in the implementation of selected Goals under the 2030 Agenda. This year, a Special Summit on SDGs will be convened in September 2019, four years following the adoption of the Global Framework to undertake a comprehensive review of progress made in the implementation of the Agenda In view of the above, the Government of Botswana through the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MFED) and with the support of the UN Botswana Country Office, seeks to procure services of a multisectoral team with extensive experience in preparing national reports on sustainable development and the SDGs to undertake a situational analysis and prepare a two-part comprehensive National SDGs report to provide progress being made in the implementation of the SDGs in Botswana and addresses specific issues in relation to goals under review by the 2019 High Level Political Forum. |
