Overview :

The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) a State-owned Enterprise established by an Act of Parliament embodying the purpose of providing for the development of the National Statistical System and its components and objectives. Its functions are to constitute the central statistical authority for the State; to collect, produce, analyze and disseminate official and other statistics in Namibia, and facilitate the capture, management, maintenance, integration and distribution of spatial data. Furthermore, the NSA is expected to advise the Minister on matters related to official and other statistics, whether of its own accord or at the request of the Minister as well as to coordinate the National Statistical System (NSS) in Namibia.

In order to broaden and deepen the coordination of the NSS, the NSA has embarked upon the development of the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS). The NSDS will provide a comprehensive and robust framework for strengthening statistical capacity across the NSS to respond to the high demand for quality and timely data. The NSDS will also be a framework for addressing data challenges, mobilization and prioritizing use of resources, introducing and managing change, mainstreaming statistics into policy and planning processes, and heralding the “data revolution” for sustainable development into the country. The development process was officially launched on the 30th October 2017 and the roadmap was approved on the 31 January 2018. It is against this background that the NSA and UNDP are seeking to acquire the services of a National Consultant to design the Sectoral Statistics Plans.
