Overview : UNDP Vietnam is seeking for 02 National Consultants for integrating circular economy principles into the Law on Environmental Protection Viet Nam’s economy is among the fastest growing economies in the world. The drastic proliferation of economic development activities that has led to this rapid growth have also caused environmental degradation, making Viet Nam one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change. Even though the national government has made strides to recycle solid waste, there is still a large proportion of waste that ends up in oceans and landfills which affects neighbouring communities. There is an urgent need to consider reusing, reducing and recycling to prolong the life cycles of products manufactured within the country. Circular economy principles advocate developing a sustainable system by maximizing the use of resources and reducing waste. In this system, production and consumption practices are transformed to reduce waste, eliminate planned obsolescence, eliminate single use products, reuse, repair, and increase recycling. The circular economy approach includes sustainable practices at every stage of the supply chain including sourcing, manufacturing, distribution, use, resource efficiency, and recycling. To develop economic models and legislation to integrate circular economy principles into the Law on Environmental Protection (LEP). To present case studies (both national and international) that demonstrate how this this new legislation could be implemented and propose a viable approach for Viet Nam to transition to a circular economy. To recommend strategic principles and targets with indicators of specific sector/ sub-sector(s) for inclusion in the next LEP.
