Introduction :

UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to eradicate poverty, reduce inequalities and exclusion, and build resilience so countries can sustain progress. UNDP plays a critical role in helping countries achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), otherwise known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

In line with the UN SDGs, the UNDP has started two project with Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA); a Project supported by the EU and a Project supported by the Government of Norway. The two projects aim at supporting management and operations of Aqaba Marine Reserve (AMR). The Reserve has been officially registered as a National Protected Area in December 2020. It is managed by ASEZA following the steps of Aqaba Marine Park, which was established in 1997. AMR also occupies the same area. The registration file prepared during 2020 incorporated detailed information on AMR’s physical and biogeochemical characteristics and dominant habitats. AMR Management vision is to develop the reserve as a model of effective planning and management that ensures its unique ecological values and associated socioeconomic benefits are used sustainably for the present and future generations through active stakeholders’ stewardship. This can significantly benefit from the knowledge available on the natural ecosystem and effective involvement of the concerned communities. A wealth of information on the coastal ecology of the Jordanian sector of the Gulf of Aqaba exists through specialized scientific research and mandatory monitoring conducted by the public and the private sectors. Support provided by UNDP includes  (i) demarcation of the official boundaries of the reserve, (ii) improving the reserve management facilities, (iii) establishing a dedicated database system, (iv) enhancing ongoing  monitoring activities, (v) provision of signage system, (vi) preparing and implementing relevant capacity development strategies and (vii) supporting the local communities and enhance awareness and outreach.

The main objective of the TOR is to contract a supplier to provide and install marking buoys denoting the outer boundaries of the Marine Reserve and provide only without installation the required material for buoys denoting the Core Protected Zone
