CALL FOR PROPOSAL FROM CSOs/NGOs - CFP/CITI/2210/95 Engagement of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) For the Economic Upliftment of Vulnerable Farming Communities and Addressing Food Security Issues in The Dry Zone of Sri Lanka
UNDP partners with people at all levels of society to help build nations that can withstand crisis, and drive and sustain the kind of growth that improves the quality of life for everyone. On the ground in 177 countries and territories, we offer global perspective and local insight to help empower lives and build resilient nations.
This Call for Proposal (CFP) is specifically related to Climate Resilient Integrated Water Management (CRIWMP) Project of UNDP. CRIWMP Project of UNDP and the Ministry of Irrigation has signed MOUs with four Provincial Councils (Northern, North Central, North-western and Eastern) to increase access to water and agriculture production in 7 Dry Zone districts in Sri Lanka (i.e. Kurunegala, Puttalam, Vavuniya, Mannar, Trincomalee, Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa). UNDP is also partnering with civil society organizations operating in these districts to implement food security targeted interventions. CRIWMP is working directly with 17,600 food security affected farmers under 329 minor irrigation tanks covering 7,150 ha of downstream land extent. However, despite water availability, leaving the farmers with no working capital to cultivate the next Maha season, only 44% of the targeted land extent is cultivated under these 329 minor tanks during the 2022 Yala season. In addition, 56% of farmers could not cultivate during the Yala season since they did not have seeds and fuel during the land preparation time. UNDP partnered with CITY Foundation to support CRIWMP beneficiaries to support Maha cultivation season to increase their income level while ensuring the immediate food security of the project beneficiaries in Kurunegala, Puttalam, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Trincomalee, Vavuniya and Mannar districts.
In this context the United Nations Development Programme in Sri Lanka invites eligible National and/or international Non-Government Organizations to submit their Information and proposals to partner with UNDP for "Economic Upliftment of Vulnerable Farming Communities and Addressing Food Security Issues in The Dry Zone of Sri Lanka”.
