In partnership with the Government of Jordan and other developmental partners, UNDP promotes a resilience-based approach that ensures sustainability, coherence and complementarity of results in support of the 2030 Agenda and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In UNDP’s work on Community Security and Social Cohesion, effective collaboration mechanisms with all levels of stakeholders – including the government institutions, NGOs, civil society, and private sector was developed to support combatting violent extremism and facilitate community dialogues between citizens and relevant governmental bodies. UNDP also supported the national efforts on Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) through encouraging top-down, bottom-up and horizontal approaches among government institutions, community-based organizations (CBOs), civil society organizations (CSOs), and international entities.

The overall goal of the project “Linking Human Security and Preventing Violent Extremism in Jordan” is to support the stabilization and resilience-building of Jordan through a comprehensive approach that tackles identified drivers of the violent extremism and supports the Government of Jordan in implementing its National Action Plan on the Prevention of Violent Extremism (PVE) and related activities. Particularly, the community policing (CP) component aims at engaging youth, females and policy officers to work together on community security issues in various municipalities. By scaling up its approach, while supporting the Public Security Directorate (PSD) and communities, UNDP aims at adopting a common understanding of the Jordanian model for community policing. This will further enhance resilience to violent extremism and operationalize human security approaches on the national level.
