REQUEST FOR QUOTATION (RFQ)

Mining Equipment (Stone Crusher Equipment) Supply, Installation Training and Commissioning

Background

The Mining Sector is considered a predominantly masculine industry due to its heavily male-dominated workforce as well as the physical demands of mining. The heavily unmotorized mine work and the attendant dirt and risk makes the male miner the typical laborer, even though women have participated in this sector for centuries. Traditionally, the mining industry has not been the preferred career choice nor place of employment for women, the few women involved in mining activities do it as the last livelihood alternative.

With more women involved in the core business of mining, they are also exposed to the same hazards related to mining as their male counterparts.  These women face greater risks to their safety because most supportive infrastructure, such as personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as mining machinery, tools, and equipment, is not designed to be used by women.

Since November 2020, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Uganda through the Spotlight initiative has been implementing a 9 months' intervention in 4 districts aimed at addressing violence against women and girls stemming from their mining related activities, using a social economic empowerment lens. The intervention aims at promoting gender equitable social norms, attitudes, and behavioral change across all levels of the socio ecological model to prevent violence against women and girls (VAW/G) and harmful practices in mining.

Despite the progress made to empower women miners under this Initiative, there is still an urgent need to promote health and safety in the mining communities.  The safety track record in the mining community continues to be a matter of great concern. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that all measures be taken to ensure that the health and safety of the female miners is not compromised.

In this regard, UNDP in consultation with the MINISTRY OF ENERGY AND MINERAL DEVELOPMENT are inviting Bids to supply, install and train users and commission Stone Crusher Equipment in identified communities across Uganda.
