Overview :

UNDP in partnership with the Judiciary of South Sudan, with funding from the Kingdom of Netherlands, supported the establishment of a Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Juvenile Court. Since December 2020, the GBV and Juvenile Court has been hearing cases in efforts to address impunity for gender-based crimes and hold perpetrators accountable. The aim has been to populate the Court with personnel sensitive to and experienced in dealing with SGBV-related issues. This includes ensuring protection of women’s human rights and accountability of perpetrators, as well as prevention efforts of re-victimization and stigmatization.

To achieve this, UNDP is seeking four competent and reputable civil society organization(s) or national non-governmental organization(s) or community-based organization(s) and two media organizations to regularly monitor human rights developments at the GBV and Juvenile Court and advocate for gender-responsive, rights-based, and transparent trial processes for GBV survivors in Juba. Successful applicants will be trained on human rights standards and monitoring, advocacy skills to deliver rights focused and victim centered activities, and administration of justice for gender crimes, and will be required to produce and disseminate forward looking periodic and annual reports for addressing the challenges identified through their monitoring activities.

The aimed and expected out:

  1. Regularly monitor human rights developments at the GBV and Juvenile Court in Juba.
  2. Advocate for gender-responsive, rights-based, and transparent trial processes by the Court.
  3. Produce and disseminate to the GBV and Juvenile Court as well as UNDP, forward looking periodic and annual reports for addressing the challenges identified through the monitoring exercises.
  4. Attend spaces to discuss progress at the GBV and Juvenile Court including the Court Users Committee
