| Introduction : UNDP is supporting the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to improve access to safe and hygienic private toilets for the inhabitants of the low-income community of Moshie Zongo. Following previous pilot experimentation, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has designed an initiative to provide household toilets to low-income residents in the Moshie Zongo area, by providing low-interest loans to residents interested in constructing toilets in their own households. The initiative also provides training to unemployed youth to build locally designed low-cost toilets.
UNDP thus wants to purchase tools and equipment as a “starter pack” for the trained unemployed community youth, now artisans, to support the project implementation in the framework of the Global Mayors Challenge led by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly in Ghana.
