IMPORTANT NOTICE: Only applications from experienced professionals in national adaptation planning processes will be considered

Under the framework of preparation of the National Adaptation Plan of Action to Climate Change (NAPA) in the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), expressions of interest are sought after from potential consultants and experts to participate in this important process.

The development of the NAPA requires a participatory process where immediate climate change risks faced by Equatorial Guinea, with the following main components:

  1. Establishment of the institutional structure to prepare the NAPA
  2. Preparation of the National Adaptation Plan of Action
  3. Public participation, consultation and awareness raising of the development and implementation of the NAPA

The NAPA Advisor will perform the following key tasks:

  • Lead team to implement NAPA activities according to an agreed work plan
  • Prepare the detailed road map for NAPA preparations
  • Interact with key stakeholders for their inputs  
  • Provide advice to the NAPA team about the preparation of the NAPA document  
  • Bring the knowledge of good practices of NAPA preparations from other countries and assure the quality of all the documents prepared under NAPA  
  • Support training on adaptation methodologies

The estimated duration of the consulting assignment is 25 weeks, with the following minimum requirements for all interested parties: 

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferable) in a relevant field, such as Environment & Climate Change, Natural Resource Economics, Agricultural/Forestry Development, Disaster Risk Management, and related disciplines
  • Minimum 3 years (for Master’s degree holders)/5 years (for Bachelor’s degree holders) of experience in climate change adaptation, disaster risk management or natural resource management  
  • Proven expertise in the design, formulation, conceptualization, development, presentation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of operationally viable adaptation projects, desirably financed by the Adaptation Fund, Special Climate Change Fund, Least Development Country Fund
  • Excellent English written and spoken communication skills (desirably with intermediate/advanced command of Spanish), with analytic capacity and ability to synthesize project outputs and relevant findings for the preparation of quality project documentation

·         Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, color, ethnic origin, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability; good team player, self-starter, with ability to work under minimum supervision and maintain good interpersonal relationships; skills in negotiating effectively, achieving results through persuading, influencing and working with others, facilitating meetings efficiently and resolving conflicts
