Description of the assignment: Individual Consultant Services to Provide Training on Setting-up LED and Undertaking Local Economy Assessment in Local Authorities
Project Name: Enhancing Service Delivery and Local Economic Development in Botswana
Period of assignment/services: 30 calendar days
Background: The Government of Botswana [GoB], in collaboration with the United Nations in Botswana and the Commonwealth Local Government Forum [CLGF] in Southern Africa, requires the services of an experienced consultant to provide training in setting-up led and undertaking local economy assessments [leas) to thirty (30) led task team members for Chobe, Kgalagadi and Francistown districts and Sowa Town.
The setting-up of led and undertaking of local economy assessment are preliminary steps in the development of local economic development [led] strategies for the districts. The led strategies are instruments through which stakeholders in the local economy - the public, business and non-government sectors - will work together to strengthen the economy of the district and achieve rapid, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, create decent jobs, and improve the quality of life for all in accordance with vision 2016 on prosperity for all.
The overall strategic objective of the assignment is therefore to provide training on setting-up led and undertaking local economy assessments in four local authorities, focusing on (i) the local economy and business environment, (ii) population and its dynamics, and (iii) poverty and environment linkages as evidential basis for the development of led strategies to achieve rapid, inclusive and sustainable social and economic development. |
