| Overview : The joint UN offices are at the Metro Park Building in Pretoria. There are currently no in-house Canteen services for Staff. The aim of establishing a Canteen is to provide staff with healthy and tasty food, at a moderate price. As food is strongly linked to culture, it will be important to take into account the varied cultural, religious and national backgrounds of UN staff in planning the Canteen services. The Canteen will be a social gathering area, enabling staff to relax and enjoy each other’s company, and to promote a life/work balance.
As the majority of UN staff are South African, or from Southern Africa, it is important that local (South African) food is served daily. There is a UN Canteen Working Group, which supports the organization of the Canteen. A UN agency nutritionist is also available to provide input to the Canteen services.
The Canteen is under the supervision of the UN Operations Management Team. Senior UN staff are involved in the Canteen, and are committed to making it work.
