Overview : PAMIGA is a network of 15 locally-owned African microfinance institutions (MFIs), highly motivated to develop rural finance in 10 Sub-Saharan African countries. The United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) is the UN’s capital investment agency for the world’s 49 least developed countries. PAMIGA and UNCDF are actively engaged in supporting low-income people to transition to clean energy through microfinance. PAMIGA is pursuing this vision through the Energy & Microfinance Programme www.PAMIGA.org, and UNCDF through its CleanStart Programme http://www.uncdf.org/en/cleanstart . Both organizations are leveraging their objectives through a partnership which started in 2013. This year, PAMIGA and UNCDF are jointly organizing an event on energy and water financing for the poor (title to be confirmed) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It will bring together two events: PAMIGA’s Annual Expert Meeting on ‘Access to clean energy and water through microfinance: early lessons learned and good practices from Africa’ and UNCDF CleanStart’s ‘CleanStart Connect’ forum which is an annual platform which facilitates partnerships and experience-sharing among private and public sector actors that are expanding energy markets for the low-income segment. To see more about the 2013 CleanStart event concept note and programme, please visit http://www.uncdf.org/en/content/cleanstart-connect-2013. A maximum of 100 participants on any given day from energy companies, financial institutions, NGOs, donors and government primarily from Africa, but also from the world over, are expected to attend this year’s joint event. It will be held at the Hilton Hotel in Addis Ababa on 29-31 October, 2014. PAMIGA will have carriage of the programme on 29-30 October, with UNCDF taking over the remaining day and a half of the programme on 30-31 October. This will be a bilingual event conducted in English and French, involving a simultaneous translation service. For detailed information, please refer to Annex I- Terms of Reference (ToR)
