Overview :

2015 is a milestone year for Africa when four major events will be observed. First, the African Union Assembly of Heads of State and Government, during the 23rd Ordinary Session, held from 26 to 27 June 2014 in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, declared 2015 as the ‘Year of Women Empowerment and Development towards Africa’s Agenda 2063’. Second, Africa and the rest of the world celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and its Platform for Action (1995). Third, the 5th Anniversary, the half way mark of the African Women’s Decade (2010-2020) will also be reviewed in 2015. Lastly but not least, the 15th Anniversary of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 is also taking place during this momentous year.  So indeed 2015 is really the Year for Women in Africa and the world over.

UN Women Liaison Office in Ethiopia, is contributing to the Advocacy and Communications Strategy of the Year for Women Action Plan by documenting stories of impact demonstrating successful strategies and innovations for and by women from around Africa. The main objective is to bring to attention the contributions that is being made by women from different walks of life in not only transforming their lives, but in contributing to a prosperous, and peaceful continent. The idea is to showcase successful strategies in order to motivate and inspire others for greater action and for upscaling and replication.

To this effect UN Women Ethiopia seeks the services of a consulting or private firm that could document a minimum of 4 stories of impact from across Africa focusing on the 5 themes in the box indicated on the TOR. The idea is to have these stories shared widely during the June 2015 Summit in South Africa and also through other channels as might be proposed by the consulting firm.
