Overview :

UNDP in collaboration with Minya Governorate and The Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs, launched a project in 2011, funded by the Italian Egyptian Debt for Development Swap Programme, with the objective of supporting and modernizing the solid waste management and recycling systems in the urban areas in Minya governorate. According to the project document, one of the expected outcomes is to establish a sorting-composting plant in EDWA city of Minya Governorate throughout the introduction of new technologies.

The project main objective is to renovate a waste recycling plant in EDWA city of Minya Governorate throughout the introduction of advanced technologies for recycling the municipal waste. This aims at producing compost with better quality and lesser reject in order to achieve economical sustainability.

The main products of this plant will be: (i) high quality pure compost for agricultural activities, through the biological treatment of organic waste, (ii) refuse derived fuel (RDF) and recyclables from the treatment of the dry fraction and, (iii) rejects to be land-filled from other fractions of MSW.

3. Scope of Work

Operational Scope: Renovation of a waste recycling plant in EDWA city of Minya Governorate. Detailed scope will cover the provision of technical services in regards of integration of a predefined preliminary design, procurement and installation of Municipal Solid Waste Management plant machinery with minimum input capacity of 180 t/d. The final products of this plant will be:

a. fertilizer for agricultural activities, through the composting of organic waste,

b. refuse derived fuel (RDF) and recyclables from the treatment of the dry fraction and,

c. rejects to be land-filled from other fractions of MSW.

Expressions of Interest are invited from machinery manufacturers and/or machinery manufacturers’ distributors (Applicants) with a proven track record in the identified solid waste management and recycling sectors. Applicant that has an advanced track record supported by proof of financial stability can participate under the project. The PMU intends to sign one contract with one Applicant as a prime contractor, therefore teaming in the form of joint-ventures and/or consortiums are also invited.
