Overview :

Description of the assignment The aim of this study is to analyze how the institutional mechanisms of the Nepal Government and its related agencies functioned in responding to the 25 April earthquake aftermath. The study will collect and review the support mobilized by all stakeholders both on humanitarian and livelihood support till date at different districts and highlights learnings at national, district and community levels. This study will gather all up to date data and information related to the 2015 earthquake response particularly during the rescue and relief phase and also other livelihood support highlighting these in chronological order. The specific objectives of the study are;

  • Review of earthquake history, risk profile of Nepal and detail assessment of Gorkha earthquake 2015 in terms of geological dimension, scientific & technical aspects and seismological analysis of aftershocks and to document it.
  • Collect all the data and information of losses & damages of 2015 EQ and support  provided by all stakeholders (government, Donor, UN agencies, development partners, I/NGOs, private sector) on response and to compile/document it in organized form.
  • Review the disaster governance system including current institutional arrangements in relation to 2015 EQ response.
  • Document lesson learned practices at national, district and community levels of post disaster response and recommend policy interventions for strengthening legislation system, institutional mechanisms and way forward for better preparedness in future.
